In meditation, when waves of joy, bliss, or love arise, ride them like a skilled surfer.
Be attentive so you recognize when they appear.
Try to stick with them the entire wave until they dissipate.
Then be ready and patient for the next uplifting wave to come up.
Other waves will arise–waves of sadness, fear, anger, pain….
We can choose to witness these as they arise and pass, and not ride them and not to get too carried away by them.
In this way, we train our being to do this both in and out of meditation and become, as a result, more joyful and loving.
We can make happiness more and more a habit.
